The National Rugby League (NRL) launches its new 2015 Telstra Premiership season campaign with a visually stunning media launch at the Sydney Opera House and a flagship TV spot featuring Robbie Williams’ ‘Let Me Entertain You’.
The core commercial, aired across national TV, features NRL fans enjoying the sport within their everyday lives and then builds towards a game-day climax.
The spot features several star names – including Greg Inglis, Johnathan Thurston, James Segeyaro and Trent Hodkinson.
The campaign and its anthem integrate across TV and online, print, radio and social media – even extending to in-game entertainment.
The message behind this marketing strategy, developed in association with agency MJW, aims to show how the competition both captivates and unites fans at every level.
‘Robbie’s song is the perfect fit for our premiership brand promise, and affirms NRL as the best form of sporting entertainment for fans and spectators alike,’ outlines NRL head of marketing, content and digital Lewis Pullen.
‘The spots are fun, they’re light, they’re great to watch. It’s a mix of joy and spectacle we’re carrying through into all our work in all media for the 2015 season,’ adds MJW creative director Luke Chess.
Comment
The campaign aims to ensure the NRL achieves its expected objective of attracting strong ticket sales and big TV viewers after last year’s successful season.
Indeed, the 2014 Finals Series and Grand Final attracted the NRL’s biggest crowds ever.
It will also hope the new season sees the sport some of last year’s scandals behind it.
