Kit supplier Nike has launched England’s new away kit on 20 March, ahead of the team’s 22 March friendly match with Germany, in a social media promotion in tandem with new England international striker Marcus Rashford.
The Manchester United striker Rashford spearheaded the unveiling across social media – led by his own personal Instagram and Twitter accounts.
The social posts link to an essay Rashford has written on the Players Tribune media platform (https://www.theplayerstribune.com/marcus-rashford-england-national-team/) – which publishes sports news and first-person stories directly from athletes.
The article offers an insight into Rashford’s relationship with the England team and the shirt: exploring the first time he was ever given a kit, to the day he found out he would be making his England debut, to his goal against Australia, subsequent Euro 2016 disappointment, and the influence that Wayne Rooney has had throughout his footballing life.

as well as with The FA itself which is promoting the new strip in creative that places Rashford alongside Harry Kane, Raheed Sterling and John Stones across its own digital and social channels – such as Facebook.
The new two-tone blue kit replaces the current red and it marks Nike’s first jersey launch since it extended its partnership with the Football Association (FA) at the end of 2016
The shirt will be promoted in harness with the England team aiming to secure a spot at next summer’s World Cup in Russia.
Te new strip will cost the same as the side’s strips used in France last summer: the full cost of an adult strip is £101.
Activative Comment:
Despite the focus on young, new talent in the form of Rashford, this is a comparatively low key kit launch compared to the previous standards set by Nike and England.
The launch follows on from the deal back in December 2016 that saw Nike extend its partnership with The Football Association (FA).
This fresh 12-year tie-in runs all the way to 2030 and is reported to be worth £400m-plus (a base figure which could grow significantly should the team hit performance-related bonuses).
Although, thus far, during the two major tournament England have worn Nike kits they have got no further than the last 16.
This is the most lucrative deal in FA history: but the £33.3m-per-year deal lags behind Germany’s top ranked £42.5m deal with Adidas and Nike’s biggest deals with France (£36m) and Spain)£34m).
And it is well behind the leading club deals – the biggest of which is currently Nike’s record breaking £130m-a-season Barcelona kit deal.
The new deal doesn’t actually kick-in until August 2018 (when the previous arrangement finishes) and it again sees the US based sportswear behemoth design and supply apparel to all 24 England teams based at St George’s Park.
‘This is another hugely significant deal for the FA and closely follows the landmark Emirates FA Cup broadcast rights announcement last October,’ said FA CEO Martin Glenn when the deal was first announced.
‘As a not-for-profit organisation, this new deal with Nike will allow the FA to invest even more into the game and make football available for all. I’d like to thank Nike for their continued support of the England teams and English football.’
Mark Bullingham, the FA’s group commercial and marketing director, added: ‘We are delighted to be continuing our partnership with Nike until 2030. It was always important for us to secure such a long-term commitment to allow both parties to build an even stronger partnership together. With the FA striving to be a world-class organisation, it’s vital for us to partner with innovative global leaders such as Nike and look to the future together. As well as supplying all of our England teams with state-of-the-art apparel, Nike is a huge supporter of our technical division’s work and of grassroots football across the country. It’s fantastic that this support will not only continue but increase from now until 2030.’
