Irish Retailer Intersport Elverys Launch New Christmas Wish List Campaign

The first week of November saw Intersport Elverys launch its 2020 Christmas campaign which seeks to epitomise exactly what we’re all thinking this festive season whilst supporting Irish sport.

The new campaign, which launched on TV and online on 6 November, sees Intersport Elverys predict that sports will take centre stage this Christmas and that sports kit and footwear will be at the top of many 2020 gift wish lists and it encourages consumers to shop local and order online at www.elverys.ie for home delivery or click and collect at one of the 51 Intersport Elverys stores nationwide.

The Irish sports retailer’s holiday marketing push is fronted by a TV commercial which sees a young boy called Jack writing his letter to Santa Claus and reflecting on his sporting year gone by. While expressing his disappointed at not having been able to play much sport this year due to Covid restrictions, he places himself in the shoes of his sporting heroes and is determined and positive that next year will be better.

The spot stars a strong line-up of famous Irish sporting faces: including several Dublin senior footballers and the Mayo GAA senior Ladies, plus Intersport Elverys brand ambassadors, Brighton & Hove Albion FC and Ireland footballer Rianna Jarrett, as well as Connacht and Ireland rugby union star Bundee Aki.

The campaign rolls out over an Irish sporting landscape which sees many major events take place in the run-up to Christmas 2020: including the GAA’s All Ireland Championships, as well as football and rugby’s Autumn Nations Cups.

“We are very excited to launch our brand-new Christmas TV ad this year. Because of Covid, we have so many sporting events condensed into the next couple of months, making it a Christmas like no other,” commented Intersport Elverys Senior Marketing Manager Anne-Marie Hanly.

“Intersport Elverys are so proud of our support of Irish sports. No other Irish brand is so invested in our sports talent, and as official retailer to a range of Ireland’s top sporting teams and organisations, we have Christmas covered, whatever the sport!”

Rianna Jarrett added “Being part of the Intersport Elverys Christmas ad has been a really moving experience for me. This year has been challenging for players and fans alike, and I think the ad shares the hope we all have that next year will be better. I hope that the ad inspires everyone and provides some Christmas cheer, and I’m looking forward to continuing my role as brand ambassador for Intersport Elverys in 2021.”

The retailer, which is Ireland’s oldest sports store and was founded in 1847, was taken over by Staunton Sports in 1998 after which it grew from a single shop to 51 outlets employing 600 staff.

Thus, Intersport Elverys has long sat at the heart of Irish sport’s stars, teams and organisations.

As well as signing Rianna Jarrett as its first female athlete ambassador in 2020, the brand has continued to invest heavily in Irish sports through official tie-ups across football, rugby and the GAA.

It is the Official Sports Retail Partner of the IRFU and Connacht Rugby and the exclusive retailer of all IRFU and Connacht ranges (and has worked with Connacht and Ireland international Bundee Aki as a brand ambassador since 2016).

Plus it is the Official Retail Partner of Dublin GAA and Tipperary GAA, as well as the main sponsor of Mayo GAA (Men’s & Women’s teams).

2020 also saw Intersport Elverys become the title sponsor of the FAI Summer Soccer Schools and will exclusively retail the new Umbro Ireland kit (including the first ever women’s range).
