Scottish Football Association (SFA) sponsor Tennant’s teamed up with actor and super fan Martin Compston to tell stories about the national team’s 23 years of near misses, defeats and disappointment and look forward with positive excitement to UEFA Euro 2020 – Scotland’s first major international tournament in a generation.
Launched to leverage the Scottish team’s opening game against the Czech Republic at Hampden Park on 14 June, the fireside chat social spot seeks to serve as a rousing warm-up for Scottish fans.
The online video, deployed across the team’s official beer sponsor’s digital and social platforms, sees Compston pull on a Scotland top and tartan pajama bottoms, recline in a big chair with an outsize leather-bound book and recap the past 23 years of hurt in order to fire up the home support with a mix of patriotism, history and beer.
Addressing fans directly, the video includes a bedtime battle cry: “It’s taken a while, but we’re finally here. It’s the night before Scotland takes on Europe and anticipation is at an all-time high for what lies ahead tomorrow.”
According to the brand: “Wherever you’re watching; at home, in the pub with a pint of Tennant’s, or, for a lucky few, at Hampdent Park – we’ve been waiting 23 years for this match to come, and only one thing is certain. We’re made for this.”
The film, which was created by agency Material and production by Freakworks, runs under Tennent’s ongoing ‘Made for This’ brand platform and positions the brewer as chief flag bearer for the national team during Euro 2020.
The Compston spot is part of Tennant’s ‘Five Million Reasons’ Euro 2020 activation is the brand’s biggest campaign in more than a decade and supporting the hero spot promotional activity revolves around on a digital hub and also includes broadcast, OOH work and digital spots.
