The first week of February saw a pair of agency creatives roll out of a new deck of digital cards hosted on a bespoke microsite which aim to explain the rules of the NFL in a way that ‘actual football (soccer) fans will understand’.
‘The NFL Explained for Actual Football Fans’ initiative was developed by former VMLY&R (London) Copywriter César Rodd (a Spaniard who admits to struggling to be a fully competent NFL fan in Europe) and Madrid-based, former Wallpaper Art Director Jade Arroyo.
“People around me get together and watch the Super Bowl without any idea how the game works, confused, indulging in junk food,” explained Rodd. “But people in Europe know how soccer (or “actual football”, as César calls it) works.
The digital deck of cards was designed specifically to help soccer fans who enjoy the all the razzmatazz, the jamboree, the food and (of course) the adverts at the Big Game, but simply don’t understand the rules of the game itself. So the creative pair helped out by focusing on using actual football (soccer) analogies and similes.

If you can tear your eyes away from all those blockbuster Big Game commercials and all the industry analysis, why not try studying a little so you can understand how and why the mercurial Patrick Mahomes’ Kansas City Chief have beaten the strong-armed Jalen Hurts’ Philadelphia Eagles…..(or was it the other way round?)
