On 9 December Arsenal FC teamed up with adidas Originals – a sub-brand of its official apparel supplier adidas – for a campaign to launch a limited-edition retro collection celebrating the greatest kits from the first period of the club/sportswear brand partnership between 1986 and 1994.
Available for purchase from 13 December, the seven-piece range spans sweaters, t-shirts and jackets alongside the hero piece of the collection – a remake of the club’s famous 1993-94 away jersey (in both short- and long-sleeve versions).
The campaign showcases the pieces and celebrates design innovation and timeless fashion with a focus on this seasonal, special time of year when families and friends come together. It was spearheaded by a hero video featuring a group of current Arsenal players in a family home style setting – along with club legend and Adidas ambassador Ian Wright.
Called ‘It’s A 90’s Thing: Arsenal x adidas Originals 93/94 kit’, the lead spot was posted across both brand and club social channels and seeks to drive viewers and fans to the online purchasing platform.
To further promote the collection, items from the range will be worn by members of both the women’s and men’s team in the build up to four seasonal fixtures between 9 and 15 December: including the Arsenal Women’s UWCL match v Barcelona on 9 December at which the team will walk out onto the pitch wearing the zipped jacket.
“I have amazing memories of playing in the adidas EQT jersey during the 93/94 season, and it’s great to celebrate that era with such a full and proper collection,” commented former England and Arsenal striker Wright. “The range has got all the classics and we had a good time on set playing our different roles. I even had to remind some of first team lads and women that we won the Cup Winners Cup that season so now that this is back, we have to win something!”
