To celebrate the launch of the adidas’ new X Speedportal boots, adidas has floated six-metre high cartoon footballers across the capital.
In London on 11 August, Adidas launched a fresh local phase of its ‘X Speedportal’ football boot marketing campaign by launching giant hot air balloons in the shape of player ambassadors Mo Salah and Vivianne Miedema.
The six meter high cartoon heads of the Liverpool FC and Egypt attacker and the Arsenal FC and the Netherlands national team attacker floated across the UK capital city and were then anchored at the Market Road public pitches in Camden, North London.
The inflatable campaign also invited some of London’s keenest amateur players to compete in a set of live ‘speed and skill challenges’ as well as ‘seven-a-side matches’ and those who ‘showcased impressive multidimensional speed’ were encouraged by the huge balloon heads shouting ‘I Like What You Got!’ and rewarded with a new pair of X-Speedportal boots.
Amplified across the German sportswear giant’s social channels, The huge cartoon balloons were based on the player graphic templates created for adidas’ ‘Rick & Morty’ hero ad which spearheads the new boot’s international launch campaign and are link to a famous Rick & Morty episode called ‘Get Schwifty’ in which a giant floating head appears in the sky demanding to see earth talents.

The inflatable, outdoor London stunt will be replicated in other amateur soccer locations as the campaign evolves.

Larger than a classic London double-decker bus, this stunt was impossible to miss on the ground and generated plenty of striking content for earned social amplification and PR coverage and links tightly to the earlier Rick & Morty intergalactic global launch campaign spot created by https://www.tbwa.nl/.
