GoPro and AFROPUNK teamed up in March to launch a new initiative called ‘Black People Do’ to tell stories of black athletes in sports that are thought to be unusual which launched with a mini-documentary on equestrian athlete Zoie Brogdon.

The film sees 15-year-old Brogdon, a Compton Cowboy, talks about her passion for riding, her competitive spirit and her experience of being a young black woman in a space dominated by the predominantly white and affluent.

The video was captured GoPro HERO9 Black cameras and tells Brogdon’s story from her relationship with her horse Ninja, to her resolve, as well as the support she receives from her parents and coaches.

The initiative link’s GoPro’s umbrella approach to sharing stories from never-before-seen perspectives and AFROPUNK (the organisers of the annual music, film, fashion and art produced by black artists and a supporter of black-owned business and the entrepreneurial adventures of people of colour and the LGBTQIA community)

The aim of the project is to explore the stories, experiences, challenges and triumphs through the unique experiences of clack athletes in spaces where whiteness is prioritized or over-represented and the series is hosted on GoPro’s The Inside Line and AFROPUNK.com.
