ANZ Salutes Oz Tennis Icon Dylan Alcott With Fed Square Mural & Financial Wellbeing Score Initiative

To pay tribute to athlete ambassador Dylan Alcott’s last appearance its his home Grand Slam, ANZ activated its rights around the 2022 Australian Open through an integrated programme which included a giant tennis ball mural of Alcott in Melbourne’s Federation Square to mark his retirement.

The financial services brand and official AO partner paid tribute to the 15-time Grand Slam singles winner and World Number One quad tennis champion Dylan Alcott OAM was with an 8m by 2.5m mural along Federation Square’s River Terrace created by Archibald prize nominated artist (and friend of Alcott) Felix Von Dallwitz.

The large scale art installation was created using more than 4000 tennis balls and is the outdoor centrepiece of ANZ’s ‘Financial Wellbeing Score’ campaign running through the tournament.

Large-scale art, scoops of gelato and a few thousand tennis balls. It seems like an unlikely trio, but it might just be the ultimate summer combination for this particularly sweaty Melbourne week.

ANZ’s AO/Alcott-inspired activation was open to the public between 21 and 26 January and those visiting the artwork who took part in an ANZ financial wellbeing survey (customers and non-customers) were able to stay cool in the Aussie summer heat with the help of a complimentary gelato courtesy of ANZ partner Piccolina.

On-site, tennis fans and art lovers alike were encouraged to take a five minute survey developed by ANZ aimed at helping everyone from young families to retirees better understand their current financial position.

“We all know it feels good to get on top of your money, and we wanted a way for people to enjoy themselves whilst checking their Financial Wellbeing score. For me, a creamy gelato on a hot summer’s day always puts a smile on my face,” added ANZ Financial Adviser Liana Cauchi. “The past two years have brought about unique challenges for Aussies and this has highlighted how quickly financial circumstances can change. At ANZ, we encourage Aussies to get on top of their finances, which starts with checking your score.”

ANZ’s ‘Financial Wellbeing Score’ initiative was also brought to life online with a web-based tool at https://www.anz.com.au/personal/financial-wellbeing/calculator/ supported by a set of digital video and social media content

Alcott also fronted the launch of ANZ’s ‘AO Commemorative Coin Collection’ earlier in January.

“ANZ is incredibly proud of Dylan’s outstanding career and this mural is a great way to publicly acknowledge that,” commented ANZ Group Executive Digital and Australia Transformation Head Maile Carnegie. “Dylan will go down as one of the all-time greats, while also tirelessly championing the effort to improve the lives of young Australians living with disabilities through his charity, the Dylan Alcott Foundation,.”

The activation took place as Alcott, who was recently named the ‘Australian Of The Year’ by the National Australia Day Council, announced his retirement from tennis at the conclusion of the 2022 Australian Open.

This isn’t Alcott’s first AO-linked mural. Back in 2020 Nike erected its own building-sized Dylan Alcot mural in the heart of Melbourne’s Richmond area to celebrate its own AO and tennis links.
