Blockchain-Led Fan Engagement Platform Socios.Com Launches AR Football Club ‘Token Hunt’

Late May saw the blockchain-based fan engagement platform Socios.com roll out a new geolocation-based augmented reality feature designed for its partner football clubs.

 

The ‘Token Hunt’ feature enables users to collect Fan Tokens and in-app digital currency called Chiliz ($CHZ) for free using their smartphones.

 

These Fan Tokens will be collected by users to provide access to exclusive club content and to club-branded games.

 

From July users can load their in-app digital wallets for free for a limited period ahead of the first Fan Token offerings in September

 

This will be followed by the launch of the first live polls to launch in October.

 

A total of $2m worth of $CHZ and hundreds of thousands of Fan Tokens will be made available for fans to hunt this summer.

 

While other features will see supporters given the chance to vote on club-delegated decisions.

 

Token Hunt is powered by layering virtual content, or 3D animations of a club’s Fan Tokens, on top of real-world locations and objects.

 

Then smartphones’ digital compasses are able to track these tokens before fans ‘capture’ them using their device’s camera.

 

The initiative was initially teased socially,

 

 

before the late May launch of the core campaign video.

 

 

Among the football club partners linking with Socios.com on the project and promoting it through club-specific social spots are West Ham United,

 

 

 

Paris Saint-Germain,

 

 

and Juventus.

While the promotional campaign debuted in May, this first-of-its-kind platform will actually launch in the second half of July as part of the Socios.com Summer Tour.

 

The campaign content is thus aimed at enabling potential users to familiarise themselves with the initiative ahead of its official launch.

 

Socios.com CEO Alexandre Dreyfus said: “The more Fan Tokens a user collects, the more influence they have over club decisions. The more $CHZ a fan collects, the more Fan Tokens they can eventually buy, increasing the rewards and experiences they can redeem.

 

“Fan Tokens will be available anywhere in the world, giving football fans the ability to connect with their club regardless of location. It’s also a fantastic opportunity for clubs and their sponsors to simultaneously engage fans thousands of miles apart with the same experience.”

Socios says that several more clubs from other top European leagues will son be added to its soccer portfolio.
