To activate around the new Premier League 2017/18 season and leverage its status as an official partner of Liverpool FC, BetVictor launched a short film in tribute to the club’s 125-Year Anniversary (and also rolled out a set of short films starring former players John Barnes and Jason McAteer).
The anniversary film, debuting in August ahead of kick-off, is serious in tone and acts as a tribute to the club, its history and its fans.
The sponsor’s spot launched around the same time as the club’s own creative cartoon tribute to its founder in the form of an animation around Liverpool FC’s first match featuring John Houlding’s ‘Team of Mac’s’.
It was on 1 September 1892 that Liverpool FC played it’s first ever match when the new side filled with Scotsmen romped to a 7-1 victory against Rotherham United at Anfield.
The animation followed on from an earlier summer spot from the club called ‘125 years of LFC In 125 seconds – This is our story’.
While the bookie brand’s three mini videos, fronted by legendary Liverpool and England attacker John Barnes and Jason McAteer, are lighter in tone and see the former players compete against each other in three sporting challenges: Foot Tennis, Foot Golf and Foot Darts.

The creative style of the club’s 125 anniversary film matches that of its 2015 video marking the 10-year anniversary of its Champions League Triumph in Istanbul.
Kit partner New Balance’s new season kit campaign also revolved around the club’s 125 year anniversary (see case study).
It was back in July 2016 that BetVictor and Liverpool first unveiled the three-year partnership that saw the bookie brand become the club’s official training wear partner.
