Technology and fashion aligned at London Fashion Week the form of an innovative alliance between Microsoft and Fyodor Golan that saw an inverted digital pyramid screening distorted images of the fashion action from the middle of the catwalk.
The collection itself was all about colour and distortion – so the collaboration aimed to bring this idea to life.
A partnership between Microsoft Brand Lab and fashion duo Fyodor Golan lit up the designer’s show at London Fashion Week will a real time tech first: an installation aimed to give the fashion fan viewer the experience of actually being inside the actual fabric.
Technology outfit Kin also worked on the project by developing a customised app for Windows Phone 8.1 which enabled the device to capture lots of images in short time that turns into a stop-frame animation video.
‘There are four Lumia 830s positioned within the catwalk show, and those devices are giving a live feed to a pyramid installation in the centre of the room,’ explained Microsoft Brand Lab’s Costas Syrmos.
Comment
This is second joint initiative for the designers and the tech experimental lab – last year the alliance developed an interactive skirt constructed entirely out of Lumia smartphones.
It sees the elite end of the fashion world explore their own approach to the growing wearable technology trend.
Microsoft Brand Lab, formerly Nokia Brand Lab (before Microsoft’s acquisition of Nokia) is changing its philosophy soince the merger and future projects look set to focus on productivity and the cloud.
