Chelsea FC forward Timo Werner is pranked by teammates Mason Mount and Jorginho for a new Yokohama digital-first, stunt-style viral running under the title ‘Yokohama Commercial Prank’
The tyre company’s comic campaign sees the midfielders secretly prank and persuade the striker into cuddling a tyre, wear dubious outfits, make daft car noises and perform some distinctly questionable dance moves.
The set up for the spot, which was semi directed by his teammates who play the role of camera operators and give instructions to the attacker, sees Werner coaxed through a fake – and yet also real – tyre ad. Like most well behaved athlete ambassadors, Werner goes along with pretty much everything the brand marketers asked of him.
The idea sees Werner believing he was fronting a TV commercial promoting Yokohama’s Advan and Geolander tyres, but unknown to him he was actually being set up by a pair of teammates.
Posted on 90min’s platforms, as well as on the club’s channels on 4 October and on the brand’s channels on 5 October.
To maximise global reach, the video is translated into 13 languages to target at least 17 markets across 90min’s platform and social channels.
Handled like a champion! @TimoWerner
@masonmount_10 and Jorginho take over a Yokohama commercial and we can't get enough of it.

The spot building on two previous successful partnerships and saw 90min seek to showcase a ‘fun’ side of the Yokohama brand while simultaneously creating deeper connection between Yokohama’s brand and products and its Chelsea partnership and club fans.
Comment
Some might comment that Werner has been the butt of plenty of jokes since his £47m move from RB Leipzig to Chelsea FC in summer 2020 as his goalscoring record has flattered to deceive with just 14 goals in 60 appearances.
In January 2020 Chelsea confirmed the end of Yokohama’s five-year, £200m shirt sponsorship deal but that the brand will continue a club partnership as Chelsea’s Global Tyre Partner.
