As the new NBA season got underway, a US studio unveiled a fan-informed passion project called ‘NBA Design Vision’ which created and curated resonant visual identities and uniforms for each team in the league.
This stylish piece of agency self-promotion from Digitas USA includes a logo, graphics package and uniform (association, icon, city and statement uniforms) for every franchise: each celebrating iconic historic designs and adding more than 100 new designs inspired by the team, city and fan culture.
The agency began the project by collecting and then ranking all previous team logos and kits using a combination of blog reviews, reddit threads and social media conversations to ensure its own fresh designs were based on supporter sentiment.
The results are hosted on a bespoke site – https://digitas.design/s-the-nba/ – where each team has its own page which covers a snapshot of collective fan sentiment and design rationale.
While some franchises have their most iconic design elements preserved, others have more significant evolutions and reimaginations and a few have even been renamed. On the website, visitors can comment and vote on their favourite designs with opinion reflected via real-time leaderboards.
Today on Brand New (Linked): Digitas Design has taken what they consider to be the best of the past and present of each NBA team’s branding to define the ideal logo and uniform set for each in this detailed project they call “NBA Design Vision”. https://t.co/vuaamzlieg pic.twitter.com/bjNGuwXTq6
