The Football Association (The FA) teamed up with rapper Wretch 32 to reveal its three lions squad for UEFA Euro 2020 through an empowering music video style online anthem ad.
England Football worked with Riff Raff Films and Director Keane Pearce Shaw to announce the final squad through a film featuring the North-London rapper which celebrates one team which is 67 million strong.
The announcement was socially teased 24 hours ahead of the official announcement and 1 June ‘The Call-up’ official squad reveal.
The hero video announcement was then backed by plenty of supporting social content.
The initiative was created for The FA by a team at production company Riff Raff Films which included Director Keane Pearce Shaw, Founder Matthew Fone, Executive Producer Natalie Arnett, Producer Louisa Plumstead, Production Manager Suzan Mustafa, 1st AD Conor Joyce, DOP Thomas Hole, 1st AC Alasdiar Baines, Loader Rory Power, Steadicam Operator Richard James Lewis, Gaffer Paul Burns, Electrician Robin Brigham, Stylist Lewis Munro, Styling Assistant Louis Holsgrove, Production Designer Charlie Hippisley, Art Department Assistant Lucy Ashmore, Runners Oscar Benady and Callum Anderson, Editor Taylor Fawcett and Colourist Jonny Thorpe of Glassworks. With music by Wretch 32 on Universal Music.
Comment:
This initiative follows in the footsteps of The FA;’s 2018 inventive, youth fan fronted World Cup squad announcement spot.
Interestingly, the spot’s director Keane Pearce Shaw is a serious football fan and Nottingham Forrest supporter (he was named after his dad’s Forest heroes Roy Keane and Stuart Pearce) and, as well as the England video, he also recently directed the campaign for the Forrest 2021/2 season home kit launch.
“I feel like I’ve completed a personal treble in the last year by working with Forest and England, as well as directing a FIFA 21 trailer,” said Pearce Shaw.
