As the Premier League title race reaches a climax, Liverpool FC manager Jürgen Klopp marked his return as a brand ambassador for Erdinger’s Weissbräu brand with a new ‘Don’t Forget The Best Bit’ UK spot running under the brewer’s ‘Never Skim An Erdinger’ campaign.
The commercial, called ‘Don’t Forget the Best Bit’, features a young, enthusiastic, yet star struck bartender called Stevie pouring the Reds boss a pint of his favourite beer. The nervous barman questions whether he has done the right thing by not skimming the foam head.
The campaign asks viewers if they have ever wondered what makes Erdinger Weissbier taste like no other wheat beer, before answering that it is the ‘Best Bit’. This is what the brand itself calls the ‘Bayerische Edelreifung’: when it adds its unique brewing yeast to the beer after the main fermentation and allow it to mature a second time in the bottle for up to three weeks and gives the beer extra time to allow the flavour to develop and the aromas to fully unfold. This yeast typically collects at the bottom of the bottle, so, after pouring, it recommends drinkers just swirl the bottle a little and pour in the ‘Best Bit’.
The campaign, which was filmed in The Dovedale Towers pub in Liverpool, runs across TV, digital and out-of-home (OOH) platforms and, in a first for the brand in the UK, includes a cinema strand.
Viewers and beer fans are also directed towards finding out further information on the ‘Best Bit,’ details about the perfect pour and an interactive ‘beer finder’ stockist search on the brand’s updated website at https://uk.erdinger.de/bestbit.html.
The campaign, which initially launched on 21 April and will run until the end of July, was created and planned by an in-house team led by Erdinger Head of Media and Content Daniela Martens and a group at MediaCom Manchester.
“Jürgen Klopp personifies the pursuit of excellence that we strive for in every Erdinger Weissbräu beer,” explained Erdinger Weissbräu Marketing Director Wolfgang Kuffner. “By coaching the bartender to ‘never skim an Erdinger’ in our first campaign together, he helped people understand that wheat beer needs a big foamy head to help retain its freshness and soften it in the mouth to give a smooth taste.”
