The latest comic clip in the European Tour’s ongoing ‘Little Interviews’ series sees golfing super star Rory McIlroy grilled by a kid reporter.
The comic Q&A, which took place at the Jumeriah Golf Estates in Dubai, is part of the European Tour’s ongoing, content-led, digital and social engagement programme and this video promoted the season ending DP World Tour Championships (the climax of the European Tour’s season).
Mcllory has faced numerous interviews since he turned professional, but few will have matched the grilling he was given by nine-year-old reporter Billy.
McIlroy was asked questions on subjects ranging from golf (of course), Tiger Woods (understandably), but also girls, weddings and his ‘terrible haircuts’ from earlier in his career.
The cheeky poolside interview closed with both interviewer and interviewee hitting some balls.
The film was first posted to the European Tour’s YouTube channel on 18 November
at the same time as it was loaded on to the association’s Facebook page
and amplified across the European Tour’s other social channels – including its Twitter feed.

The European Tour has been running its ‘Little Interview’ series since the summer and they have previously featured Graeme McDowell,
Thomas Bjorn,
Andrew Johnston,
and even singing superstar Niall Horan.
All of the previous spots have generated good traction, but none have racked up the same level of fan engagement as the Rory film: which boasts 2.7m Facebook views, 400,000+ YouTube views and 27K likes and 12k retweets in its first 48 hours.

Somehow this tactic manages to stay fun and fresh, despite it being used time and again across the sports marketing landscape.
