Launched in early June immediately ahead of Russia 2018 kick-off, Gatorade’s ‘Heart Of A Lio’ animated short film is a touching Lionel Messi biopic which predicts the Argientian icon lifting the World Cup.
Developed in harness with the Buenos Aires animation house Gizmo and creative agency TBWA/Chiat/Day L.A, this touching four-minute film tells Messi’s story from birth and babyhood, through boyhood and Barcelona
It tells of early promise, growth troubles, the highs and lows of a professional player and also imagines Messi leading his nation to the famous trophy at Russia 2018.
The spot carries the consistent, inspirational mantra that “if you have a dream to chase, nothing can stop you” and closes with the Gatorade tagline “Win from Within”.
Teased with a teaser back on 24 May,
the full feature was posted on 5 June.
Comment:
With 7m YouTube views to date, this spot has performed much better than Gatorade’s earlier, May World Cup work featuring Messi alongside Barcelona team mate Luis Suarez called ‘Everything Changes’ which notched up only 60K views on the brand’s YouTube page (see case study).
There really is so much stunning sports activation around this summer.
This striking Gatorade fictional cartoon biopic rolled out in the same week as Wimbledon’s sumptuous ‘TakeOnHistory’ animated spot (see case study).
