Germany football legend and new brand ambassador Michael Ballack fronted a comic campaign for DAZN led by a global spot spanning its own platforms which sees the iconic midfielder make a surprise visit to an unsuspecting couple’s home.
Early August saw the global sports streaming service roll out the campaign which was spearheaded by a 30-second TV commercial titled ‘Ballack Visits’ in which the former national team captain and Bayern Munich skipper invites himself in to the strangers’ home, settles down on the couch and join them in switching on DAZN, kicking back and watching football.
Shot in Munich, helmed by FAMILIA Director Craig Moore, the ad debuted on 3 August and uses the trio’s conversation to showcase DAZN sports services – which are offered in more than 200 countries around the world – spanning various major football leagues around the world.
“We planned for a number of scenarios due to us not knowing how the performances would turn out,” recalled Director Craig Moore. “However, Michael Ballack was great and we managed to capture some great moments that worked well between our three protagonists. The mix of performance and football moments creates a nice fast paced 30 that builds in pace and energy throughout. Big thanks to DAZN and Dentsu Creative for the meticulous planning and understanding.”
The campaign was created by a joint team which included Antoni Producers Jankel Huppertz, Moritz Suelz and Roman Zeitz, Associate Creative Director Christian Dallmeier, Creative Director Mirjam Wagner, Head Of Production Marjorie Jorrot, Creative Directors Lucas Schneider and Malte Buelskaemper, plus Copywriters Gaia Bonetti and Pam Boschma.
Production was handled by FAMILIA with Director Craig Moore, Executive Producers Toby Walsham and Mikey Levelle, Producer Vanessa Hetherington, Production Manager Holger Borutta, Production Assistant David Resnicek, DOP Callan Green, Focus Puller Nick Banham, 2nd AC Raffael BöEr, Gaffer Michael RöSka, Sparks Claus Mayan and Dominik Bretscher, Art Director Katja Severin, HMU Claudia Hesse, Runners Dajan Kudeljic, Raul Dragalina, Herakles Reichart and Ferdinand Seybold and Unit Grade Denny Cooper.

This is the first major campaign featuring the former Bayern and Chelsea player since the June 2022 announcement that DAZN had appointed Ballack as an on-screen football analyst. The tie-up will see him feature in live broadcasts of the Bundesliga and Champions League from the start of the 2022/23 season.
The 45-year-old Ballack has previously worked for the US sports broadcaster ESPN and most recently for the Telekom service MagentaTV.
