An FC Seoul stunt by to fill up seats in its empty stadium backfired when the club’s two dozen, self-described ‘mannequin fans’ turned out to be sex dolls.
The stunt was a result of the team’s attempt to introduce some lifelike fan models to the stands for the 8 May behind-closed-doors return of Korea’s top professional league – the K League – during the club’s 1-0 win over Gwangju FC on Sunday, 17 May
Football fans and the media were quick to spot FC Seoul’s mistake on TV and on online – not surprising considering while some were wearing club shirts, several of the sex doll fans were also wearing clothing that featured the branding from the adult-themed manufacturer and even holding signs featuring the names of two specific sex toys.

Inadvertently advertising sex toys in South Korea is illegal and FC Seoul was forced to apologise and was fined a record 100m won ($81,000) by the league which said the club had “deeply humiliated” female football fans and damaged the 38-year-old league’s reputation.
FC Seoul, the 2016 league champions, accepted the decision, apologised and vowed never to repeat of the incident.
Earlier in March, the K-League became the world’s first major football league to start playing football again following South Korea’s succeeds in containing the virus, but spectators are banned from stadiums so most clubs are adding cardboard cutouts, placards and banners to the stands to try and create a semblance of atmosphere with added crowd noises played through PA systems.
