Man Utd Stars Play Comic ‘Footgolf’ For Swissquote Online Film.

Man Utd’s season may have ended without a trophy, but an end-of-season webfilm led campaign by sponsor Swissquote sees Juan Mata and Ander Herrera take on Chris Smalling and Jonny Evans in a competition for the inaugral ‘Swissquote Forex Footgolf Challenge Cup’.

 

This early June online ad sees United players take part in a ‘Team England’ vs ‘Team Spain’ comic game of the new sport of ‘Footgolf’.

 

The Swissquote digital initiative, helmed by Mark Chaudoir and developed with Mob Films, sees the players put their ball skills to the golf course test – the team which kicks the ball in the hole with the fewest number of shots wins – and ends with the Spanish stars coming out on top.

 

The light-hearted creative is eventually won with an innovative Mata chip that rebounds off the Swissquote golfcart and into the hole.

 

 

In addition to being promoted via Swissquote’s UK social channels (https://www.youtube.com/user/SwissquoteBank), the film was also posted on the Forex sponsor’s  Spanish (https://www.youtube.com/user/migcapitales ) and Italian YouTube channels (https://www.youtube.com/user/migcapitalit)

 

As well as running across Swissquote’s Twitter feed.

‘We kick hundreds of footballs every day in training, but it took a lot of skill and quality to get the ball in the hole, particularly after Ander slipped on the first hole!’

This is a fairly fun, but blatantly unfair competition pitting two skilful;, diminutive Spanish creative midfielders taking on two tall, burly UK central defenders.

 

But it’s not an entirely original idea either for a sports brand or for a Man Utd player, as current club captain Wayne Rooney has previously taken on golf’s Rory Mclory in a Nike ‘Footgolf’ commercial that used a similar creative theme to promote its World Cup ambush Ordem ball launch in late 2013.
