Milwaukee Brewers & Sponsor Miller Lite Host Zoom Virtual ‘Happy Hour’ For Fans In Lockdown

Major League Baseball’s Milwaukee Brewers held a virtual fan event on Zoom inviting fans to dial in for a Q&A session with franchise players, personalities and executives.

The first edition of the Brewers’ ‘Virtual Happy Hour’ series livestreamed on 23 April reached full capacity for the hour-long Zoom call.

The cyber Happy Hour event was appropriately sponsored by franchise beer partner Molson Coors.

It offered fans an opportunity to interact with Brewers broadcaster Brian Anderson, president of baseball operations and general manager David Stearns, plus Hall of Famer Robin Yount and pitcher Brandon Woodruff.

“We’re looking at the silver lining given these incredibly difficult circumstances. The shutdown has given us the luxuries of time as well as trial-and-error with initiatives we couldn’t normally pull off with a full schedule of games,” commented Brewers’ President of Business Operations Rick Schlesinger.

Outcome:

MLB franchise Milwaukee Brewers say digital event met “highest expectations” as the maximum capacity of 1000 fans joined the club and the brand for its Virtual Happy Hour.

According to Brewers’ SVP Of Affiliate Operations Tyler Barnes, the ‘happy hour’ completely delivered on its goals.

“That’s our ultimate report card,” said Brewers SVP Of Affiliate Operations. “Did it resonate with fans? Did it provide some good value for Molson Coors for being so supportive for what we’re trying to do? It all met our highest expectations.”

Barnes noted that while here was little drop-off in attendees throughout, those leaving were rapidly replaced by new viewers.

“It seemed like the people that were in that room, they weren’t giving up their barstool.”

Comment:

The Brewers’ Zoom activation follows that of fellow similar initiatives from some of Milwaukee’s other major league franchise: for example, the National Basketball Association’s (NBA) Bucks is also offering a suite of social content for fans while the sport remains in lockdown.

Earlier this month, the Eastern Conference leaders launched ‘BucksPlay’ which serves supporters with behind-the-scenes footage, player lifestyle features and access to the franchise’s in-arena experience to entertain supporters.

Other notable, high-tech initiatives from sports teams during lockdown also include Borussia Dortmund’s live streamed cyber party for fans in Japan (see case study) and Juventus’ interactive game show also tailored for its Chinese supporters (see case study).
