Leveraging the start of the ICC T20 World Cup, mid-October saw London-based digital experience and events company NFTIE team up with cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar for the release an official collection of NFTs based on his career highlights.
The initiative, which saw Gavaskar become the first Indian cricketer offer a personal NFT collection, was titled ‘Always First’ and offered an NFT collection celebrating the career and key moments of one of the world’s best ever test openers.
These achievements included:
> The first player to score more than 10,000 test runs
> Scored the most runs (774) in a single series by any Indian batsman
> Held the record for the most Test centuries (34) for many years
> One of three players to score centuries in both test innings of a match three times
> The first Indian cricketer to carry his bat in Test cricket – scoring 127 in 1983
Access to the NFT collection was through a virtual Hall of Fame: an immersive digital experience in which fans can explore, enjoy, and interact with the key moments from Gavaskar’s career and even have an opportunity to join Gavaskar on a live video call.
As well as owning the digital rights to some of Sunil Gavaskar’s finest moments, collectors also benefit from interactive and exclusive content and have a chance to win signed merchandise, attend real-world events and even meet the man himself.
Hall of Fame tickets were sold as NFTs (via a debit and credit card or crypto transaction) at a range of price points to give fans and collectors a simple way to access the world of NFTs and a unique cricket experience.
The ‘Sunil Gavaskar Always First NFT Collection’ was promoted via a social and PR campaign and will be sold on a first-come first-served basis starting 14 November 2021 followed by the opening of the Hall of Fame in December.
