Mid April saw Manchester United Football Club launched a diversity drive called ‘Hat Red’ running under its umbrella #AllRedAllEqual initiative which commits the club, its players and its fans to equality, diversity and inclusion.
As part of Man Utd’s drive to make progress in this area, the club launched a ‘HAT RED’ campaign that features members of its women’s and men’s teams.
This Spring 2019 campaign is part of the club’s ongoing #AllRedAllEqual diversity commitment which initially debited back in 2016.
A hero video promoted the campaign launch and features Manchester United players, including Anthony Martial, Juan Mata and Jesse Lingard from the men’s team and Emily Ramsey and Martha Harris from the women’s.
In the film, each of the players discusses the campaign’s message and show their reaction to discriminatory opinions and anti-social posts.
The spot is running across the club’s digital and social platforms.

Banners were displayed at Old Trafford’s East Stand and on the centre-circle flag to mark the occasion, while, as well as the video and the stadium banners, the club’s website and social media will feature messaging around the club’s opposition to discrimination and promoting the #AllRedAllEqual commitment to its diverse global fan base.
Comment:
One of the major challenges still facing the sport faces today, discrimination is a sad reality that players and their fans are constantly facing: on the receiving end of homophobic, racist, sexist and ableist rhetoric both at games, in stadiums and on social feeds and pretty much anywhere the game touches.
And this admirable, sadly necessary campaign comes at a time when racism and inequality has again spiked in football – both in the UK and overseas.
