As the season reaches a climax, Arsenal Football Club’s official tire partner Cooper Tire is leveraging its rights by testing player reaction speeds and accuracy in a campaign called ‘The Cooper Tire Reaction Challenge’.
Attacking midfielders Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Mesut Özil lined-up with defender Shkodran Mustafi to showcase their dead ball accuracy.
The challenge tests the stars by asking them to kick a ball through a custom-made wall of Cooper Zeon 4XS Sport tyres hung within the goal mouth.
The tyres are programmed to light up in a random sequence and the players are challenged to react to the lights and aim for each tyre as it is illuminated.
The spearhead is a digital/social video featuring some spectacular shots, comic moments and something rarely seen as Mesut Ozil uses his right foot as the players also test out their weaker sides.
The spot is amplified across the brand’s YouTube,
Facebook,
and Twitter channels.

Cooper Tire Europe Marketing Communications Manager, Sarah McRoberts, said, “Congratulations to Mesut Özil on winning our latest player test. He has now featured in three of our films and has proven to be a master of accuracy when it comes to the Cooper Tire Reaction Challenge.

Activative Comment:
In its first week the core video racked up 32,183 views on YouTube and 11,000 on Facebook.
Cooper is becoming well known for its series of player challenges which include January’s ‘Darets Challenge’ (120,000 YouTube views),
and 2016’s ‘Precision Challenge’ (80,000 YouTube views).
As commercial partners look to leverage the climax of the football season, this is by no means the first player-challenge style activation from Arsenal partners in recent weeks: others include initiatives from Betfair (see case study) and Citroen (see case study), as well as the launch of the football club first Amazon Alexa Skill (see case study).
