Launched on 31 July, a few days ahead of the 2019/20 season kick-off, the League Managers Association (LMA) leveraged its partnership with Prostate Cancer UK to raise awareness of a disease that claims the life of one man every 45 minutes.
The ‘Men, We Are With You’ campaign features some of British football’s biggest stars – both managers and players: a trio of former England players (Newcastle legend Alan Shearer, Manchester United skipper Gary Neville and Spurs/Newcastle striker Les Ferdinand) team up with AFC Bournemouth’s manager Eddie Howe, Republic of Ireland manager Mick McCarthy, former England manager Sam Allardyce and former Rangers and Birmingham City manager Alex McLeish.
This impressive line-up joined forces to promote the life-saving work being done through the partnership.
The cause campaign launch was spearheaded by an emotionally powerful video showcasing the charity’s ambition to celebrate everything great about men and highlight the special moments we lose when a life is claimed by prostate cancer.
The spot, which highlights the fact that one man dies every 45 minutes from prostate cancer in the UK and calls on football fans everywhere to join the biggest team in football and get involved in the initiative, is running across the charity’s social channels including YouTube
and Twitter.

The spot was initially teased at the LMA Annual Awards back in May, where the LMA raised £10,000 to help fund specialist nurses to support those concerned or affected by prostate cancer throughout the 2019/20 Premier League season.
At the event, the LMA Ambassadors all wore the Prostate Cancer UK ‘Man of Men’ pin badge, explaining why the charity’s work in football is so important. This year marks the fifth successful season between Prostate Cancer UK and the LMA.
