A World Cup ‘Banksy Graffiti’ tribute from The Football Pools sees the UK soccer betting outfit spoof the famous British street artist with the real Gordon Bank commemorating his iconic save against Pele on a football stadium wall.
A hooded figure sprays a stencil image of the famous moment from the 1970 World Cup on a blank concrete at Stoke City’s Britannia Stadium.
The mysterious graffiti sprayer turns out to be legendary England stopper Gordon Banks (and not Bristol artist Banksy) and the location seems appropriate enough as the famous England keeper was playing for Stoke City at the time.
The film is a promotion by The Football Pools and was posted on the day the tournament began and it was developed in association with artists from Grafitti Life.
It operates both as a ‘Good Luck England’ message as well as an awareness boost aiming to incentive football fans to play The Pools’ ‘World Cup T-Rio’ game for a chance to win £3m.
