Mid August saw Unibet launch a new campaign, called ‘Wanna Bet’, fronted by sports stars Schwarzer and Whittaker and featuring a string of everyday Australians making casual bets with family, friends or work colleagues.
The initiative, which was developed in tandem with Ninth Wave and the P2 Content Agency, is spearhead by a pair of fresh television commercials.
The two 30 second TVCs were shot in Australia and in Las Vegas.
The Schwarzer spot sees the Socceroo’s most capped player and goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer watching a game of football on his mobile and on a bus and is challenged by an elderly lady to bet on the outcome of a penalty.
In the second film stars UFC champion Rob Whittaker who threatens to annihilate his opponent in a video game!
As well as television, the campaign ran across the brand’s digital and social platforms with additional tactical content and digital and social versions of the spots.
Aside from Schwarzer and Whittaker, the ads also see wagers on the gender of a child during a pregnancy scan and the chances of a few friends gaining entry into a nightclub.
This new campaign was created by a joint team from Unibet, Ninth Wave and P2 Content Agency.
“The campaign aims to illustrate how betting plays a role in everyday Australian life. It is almost subconscious and usually with a great sense of fun,” said Unibet head of marketing and operations Julian Timmins.
“The Aussie public ‘bet’ on everyday events with friends and family all the time, it is inherent in our culture.”
Harrison Woodhead, the director of the commercials, added: “A typical Aussie punter will bet on a couple of blow flies walking across a bar table – it’s just good sport. This campaign taps into that insight, highlighting the fun that punters get out of turning everyday happenings into something far more interesting!”
The campaign was created for Unibet head of marketing Timmins and marketing manager Renee Kraakman by a team from Ninth Wave led by managing director Simon Tebbut and by a P2 Content Agency group that included general manager Marc Collister, director Harrison Woodhead, executive producer David Williams, DOP Mikey Hamer and Nino Tamburri, editor Kristian Mather, graphics Josh McEvoy, colourist Yanni Kronenberg, assistant producer Troy Gordon.
