Dark Horses Creative Shoots NHS Charities Cup Spot: A Sentimental, Home-Shot Film Starring Family

Rob Sanderson, a creative at sports agency Dark Horses whose wife works for the NHS, home shot an emotional fundraising film featuring his own family and promoting the NHS Charities Cup.

The NHS Charities Cup, a star-studded EA FIFA 2020 tournament was set up to raise money for the NHS.

Shot at Sanderson’s house following UK lockdown guidelines, it features the filmmaker’s son Fin and wife Holly.

The spot opens with Holly putting on her cycling gear and heading out to work, while father and son spend the day creating football shirts to wear together while watching the tournament. The video closes with Fin presenting his mum the shirt he drew as she gets home from a shift.

The end shot shows aims to inspire the viewer to donate £5 by texting UNITE5 to 7045 or £10 by texting UNITE10 to 70456.

Sanderson says: “Our morning routine is Holly cycling to work at the crack of dawn and Fin getting up to see her off. Then we’d usually start the home-schooling schedule. This time, though, we made shirts and waited for it to get dark. We really liked the idea of putting all the energy people would usually spend supporting their football teams, into supporting the NHS. This inevitably means that you’ll need a shirt, and with the kids at home and the population rediscovering their handicraft skills, making your own seemed to be a great way to support the cup.”

The campaign was created by agency Dark Horses Creative Partner Steve Howell, with Creatives Rob Sanderson, Eve De Haan and Stella Jonikaite, it was helmed by Director Rob Sanderson, with Agency Producer Jeremy Muthana, DoP Rob Sanderson, Senior Account Director Alex Nixon, Account Manager Tia Sackett and Planner Matt Readman.

The production company was Young Dukes, the colourist was Denny Cooper of Unit Studios and the sound engineer was Ed Downham of Wave Studios.
