Sportswear behemoth Nike salutes an NBA star who truly changed the game with a striking animated tribute that celebrates Dirk Nowitzki and marks his NBA retirement after 21 years in the league.
Nike’s tribute social spot, released on 10 April to mark is final game, is narrated by Steve Nash.
The narrative arc revolves around the way the Nowitzki changed the way that the power forward position is played – particularly in terms of 3-point shooting.
The giant German basketball player arrived in the USA in the 90s and made a name for himself as a one club star playing for the Dallas Mavericks.
Initially the seven-footer was expected to play a defensive role due to his stature and powerful physical presence, but he wasn’t deterred from taking shots beyond the D and emulating his skilful contemporaries and in doing so he changed the sport of basketball.
His unique play-style paved the way for others to emulate him and evolve the way the game is played – proving that ‘all dreams are crazy until you make them true #justdoit.’
