Team NZ Olympic Sponsor Noel Leeming Skates On Into The Winter Olympics With Comic ‘Always Happy To Help’ Campaign

A February multi-channel marketing campaign from New Zealand consumer electronics retailer Noel Leeming leverages spiking interest around the Winter Olympics and activates its status as an official sponsor of Team New Zealand.

 

Noel Leeming, an electronics store chain owned by the country’s largest retail conglomerate The Warehouse Group, teamed up with agency TBWA\New Zealand for a comic campaign leveraging Beijing 2022.

 

After ‘representing’ the country in show jumping during the 2021 Summer Olympics, the brand brings back its comic brand character to pull on ice-skating boots in a hero spot that spearheads a campaign which spans TV, OOH, digital, social and in-store.

 

 

The Winter Games spot sees flamboyant, yet helpful ‘Noel Leeming’ delay his arrival onto the rink to help a member of the Olympics staff set up their tech. Rolling out under the brand’s ongoing ‘Always Happy To Help’ platform, the underlying message of the campaign is to drive home a message about the great lengths Noel Leeming will go to help its customers with their tech and appliances.

“We’re honoured to be getting behind our Olympic athletes again this year as official sponsors of the New Zealand Team,” outlined Jonathan Waecker (Chief Customer and Sales Officer at parent company The Warehouse Group). “Through a fun spin on the winter games, we wanted to highlight Noel Leeming’s commitment to customers and show that no matter the tech query – big or small, we’re always here to help.”

 

TBWA\NZ Chief Creative Officer Shane Bradnick added: “It’s great to see that Noel Leeming is a character who’s flexible enough to do everything from stopping dads going deaf, to jumping over stuff on a horse, to donning a sparkly one piece and getting amongst it in the rink.”
