The 15 February saw UEFA and official supplier adidas unveiled a special anniversary edition of the official UEFA Champions League match ball: which will be used for the remaining knockout fixtures in the competition and at the 2021 final in Istanbul.
The ball’s new design celebrates the 20th anniversary of the competition’s ‘starball’ design – which was first introduced in 2001 and features every design from 20 previous UEFA Champions League finals woven together.
Thus blending football past and present together in the new ball.
Thin scarlet banners detail each year and final host city, while the thermally bonded star panels provide a seamless surface for an improved first touch.
The reveal was timed to leverage the Champions League mid-February resumption and was promoted through a digital-first campaign rolling out from 15 February which included online video and social content running across both adidas and UEFA channels.
