Vice President Kamala Harris and her husband Doug Emhoff (the Second Gentleman), First Lady Jill Biden, NFL stars Max Crosby and Erik Kendricks and reality television celebrity and entrepreneur Kim Kardashian are just a few of the first notable names to cheer on the nation’s Paralympians in Team USA’s #GoTeamUSA digital campaign.
Launched at the start of the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games and created by agency 72andSunny, the ‘Cheer From Home: #GoTeamUSA’ campaign urge fans to support the US team through social content tagged with the campaign hashtag.
Like the Olympics before them, the Paralympics are taking place behind closed doors and so, with fans were unable to support their favourite athletes in person in Tokyo 2020, the initiative aims to generate cheering and support across social media.
Launched on 24 August, as the Paralympic athletes head out to Tokyo, Team USA and 72andSunny urge fans across the country to show their support so ‘the athletes feel the love from home’. Fans are invited to send support – in the form of videos, pictures, text and emojis – on Instagram and Twitter using the hashtag #GoTeamUSA.
These #GoTeamUSA posts are then being aggregated (and moderated) and then shared with Team USA Olympians and Paralympians on digital screens in the athlete village and training centres in Tokyo. Athletes can also access the fan love on the campaign’s webpage which is optimised for mobile.
The messages, which are being encouraged from the start of the Paralympics up until 5 September, are also being screened for athletes’ friends and families in Orlando.
