Wembley Stadium Kicks Off #Wembley100 Centenary With Web Content, Film, Virtual Tour & Contest

January saw ‘Wembley Stadium connected by EE’ – owned by The Football Association (The FA) – began a year of birthday celebrations on its 100th anniversary with the launch of a multi-stage, multi-phase programme called #Wembley100.

To mark 100 years since it opened in 1923 and celebrate its most historic and memorable moments over the century – from the 1923 White Horse FA Cup Final and the 1948 Olympics, to Bobby Moore lifting the FIFA World Cup in 1966, 1985’s Live Aid concert and Chloe Kelly’s extra time winner in UEFA Euro 2022 – the stadium’s year-long centenary celebration programme is hubbed around a bespoke website at https://www.wembleystadium.com/about/Wembley-100

The initiative was introduced via a hero video titled ‘100 Years of Wembley Stadium: Where It Will Always Matter More’. Set to a track called ‘Destiny-14494’ by Tihomir Goshev Hristozov (via BMI) and rolled out across its digital and social channels from 10 January, the film celebrates 100 years of the self-styled ‘world’s most iconic stadium’.

Linked through the umbrella #Wembley100 hashtag, another part of #Wembley100 is a list-building contest asking fans to share their own personal memories of the stadium in order to be in with a chance to win three pairs of VIP tickets to a Wembley event of choice.

‘Share Your Memories Of Wembley Stadium’ invites people to share their favourite memory of the venue of the past 100 years with copy, imagery and video submitted via an online entry form on the web hub.

“What has been your standout Wembley moment over the last 100 years? Tell us why Wembley Stadium holds a special place in your heart on the form below – feel free to add any photos you might have. All entries via this form will be entered into a prize draw to win one of three pairs of VIP tickets to a Wembley event of your choice from 20 April 2023 – 31 December 2023. Entrants must be aged 18 or over and entries will close on 1 April 2023.’

The programme also includes a digital ‘Century Of Memories’ space: a chronological copy, photo and video look back at the last 100 years of the self-styled ‘world’s most iconic stadium’, as well as offering a ‘Behind-The-Scenes’ virtual tour (and of course, a ticket sales drive).

Wembley Stadium, branded as ‘Wembley Stadium connected by EE’ for sponsorship reasons, is a football stadium in Wembley, north London. The current iteration opened in 2007 on the site of the original Wembley Stadium (opened in 1923 and demolished in 2002)

Wembley is owned by the governing body of English football, the Football Association (The FA) whose headquarters are in the stadium, through its subsidiary Wembley National Stadium Ltd (WNSL).

Designed by Populous and Foster and Partners and built by Multiplex (for £798m) with a signature 134-metre-high landmark arch, the stadium’s 90,000 seats make it the largest in the UK and the second largest in Europe. The ground hosts major football matches (including home matches of the England national football team, and the FA Cup Final), as well as other major games in sports such as Rugby League and the NFL, plus concerts and events.
