On 9 June YouTube teamed up with a team of creators to release a feature length documentary about Gareth Southgate called ‘Raise Your Game’ to provide an insight into the England manager ahead of this summer’s UEFA EURO 2020.
The YouTube creators behind the film were ChrisMD, SV2, Yung Fill, and StuntPegg and they worked with Zig Zag Productions on a film which sees Southgate explore his life lessons, career journey, and ambitions – for EURO 2020 and beyond.
Each creator story breaks off from a central intimate interview with Southgate to tell a tale of an inspirational young person in the UK and linking back to one of Southgate’s three core motivational beliefs: Be Kind, Be Brave, and Follow Your Dreams.
Each story demonstrates how the manager’s philosophies are being realised in the real-world, whilst simultaneously highlighting how young people across the UK are raising their game to not only make a difference within grassroots football, but their wider communities too.
The film reaches a climax at The Football Association’s training headquarters at St George’s Park where the YouTube Creators meet Southgate for an ‘epic finale’.
The film explores Southgate’s long-standing support of the Prince’s Trust and features his new book ‘Anything is Possible’ (from which all proceeds go to the chairty’s future leaders initiative). Indeed, the ‘Raise Your Game’ documentary is an extension of his ongoing work with young people.
The spot also drives viewers online to purchase the book at https://www.amazon.co.uk/Anything-Pos…
“Ahead of this year’s Euros, I want to celebrate and shine a light on the inspirational work of so many people across our country,” says Southgate. “It has been a tough and challenging time for so many people and it continues to be. There are so many more important things in life than football, but I want to show the role that our national game can play in our lives and how it can be a real force for good for so many.”
